Summer wardrobe for women: 10 Styles I would pack for 14 days

One of the questions I get most often in the studio is: how many pieces do you actually need for summer?

Most of us have packed a suitcase a little too optimistically at some point. We bring clothes for every imaginable occasion and end up wearing the same few favourites on repeat. That's why I've become more intentional about building a wardrobe around styles that work in multiple ways.

For me, a good summer wardrobe isn't about having as much as possible. It's about being able to get dressed without overthinking it. When colours, fabrics, and fits work together, getting dressed becomes easier — and there's more room to enjoy the summer itself.

If I were packing for 14 days of summer — city breaks, beach days, and restaurant evenings — these are the 10 key styles I'd choose.

1. A classic cotton T-Shirt

A good T-shirt is usually the first thing I pack. It works for everything from travel days to relaxed afternoons in the city or by the beach.

I prefer a T-shirt in a soft cotton quality that can be styled with shorts, trousers, and skirts alike. It's often the piece that ties the rest of the wardrobe together.

2. A linen T-Shirt

When temperatures rise, linen is one of the fabrics I come back to year after year.

Linen is lightweight, breathable, and comfortable even on the warmest days. A simple linen T-shirt works the same way as a classic cotton tee, but gives a slightly more relaxed summer feel.

3. The summer dress for beach and pool

There's something freeing about a dress you can just pull over your head and be ready for the day.

It should be light, airy, and comfortable. A style that works over swimwear, for an ice cream by the harbour, or a relaxed lunch in the sun.

4. The summer dress for dinner and evenings out

I always pack a dress that works for both a restaurant dinner and an evening in the city.

It doesn't need to be a formal dress. In fact, the best styles often work equally well with sandals during the day and a little jewellery and a light jacket in the evening.

5. The oversized shirt

If I could only bring one style on holiday, it might well be an oversized shirt.

It works as a shirt, a light jacket, and a beach cover-up. I often wear it open over a T-shirt or dress when the weather shifts throughout the day. It's one of those styles that creates layering without feeling heavy.

6. The short-sleeved shirt

A short-sleeved shirt has earned a permanent place in my summer wardrobe.

It gives a relaxed but still put-together look and it's perfect for sightseeing, café visits, or dinner on a warm summer evening.

7. Comfortable travel trousers

Comfort matters more to me now than it used to.

A pair of relaxed trousers in a soft fabric is essential on travel days, on flights, or on long days when you're constantly on the move. At the same time, they can be styled well enough that you never feel underdressed.

8. Trousers in a lightweight fabric

When it gets warm, I prefer trousers in Tencel or lightweight cotton.

They allow freedom of movement and feel comfortable all day long. They're also a great alternative to shorts if you want a little more coverage.

9. A Sweatshirt for cool evenings

Even in summer, evenings can be cool.

A soft sweatshirt is therefore always in my suitcase. It works over dresses, with relaxed trousers, or as an extra layer on the terrace when the sun goes down.

10. A trench coat for the city

If the trip takes me to a city, I almost always pack a trench coat.

It's practical in changeable weather, but it also elevates an outfit. It also works well across seasons, which makes it one of the styles I reach for most in my wardrobe.

The mistake I see most often

Many women actually have plenty of clothes.

What's often missing are the styles that tie the wardrobe together.

I often see customers fall in love with a dress or a shirt, but they're missing the layering pieces that make it easy to wear things in multiple ways. An oversized shirt, a light jacket, or a simple T-shirt can be just as important as the season's new favourite.

When base styles, colours, and patterns work together, the possibilities multiply.

Colours that work together

There's no single right colour palette for summer.

The most important thing is that the colours suit your personal style.

In summer, though, there's room for a little more colour. The sun is out, the mood is more relaxed, and many people feel like experimenting a little more.

In my own wardrobe, I often come back to warm brown tones combined with off-white, blue hues, and a touch of pink. These are colours that work well together while still allowing for variation.

Fabrics I always recommend

When choosing clothes for summer, I prioritise natural materials as always.

Linen, cotton, and Tencel are among my favourites because they're breathable, comfortable against the skin, and work well on warm days.

For me, quality isn't just about how clothes look. It's also about how they feel to wear throughout an entire day.

Fewer styles with more possibilities

If I were to sum up my approach to the summer wardrobe, it's not about having more styles. It's about having the right ones.

When your wardrobe consists of favourites that can be mixed and matched, getting dressed becomes easier. You wear more of what you already have, and you end up with a wardrobe that works for everyday life, holidays, and summer's spontaneous plans.

And perhaps that's exactly what a good summer wardrobe should do.
